This weekend I didn’t manage to get a lot done at the station. The horrible autumn weather made my mood bad and all I managed to get done was to lift the pieces of tower in place and assemble them. I also attached the two level of guy lines, attached the control cable for the rotor, so now its ready to be hoisted. I have scrapped the original plan of using a tree to winch it up, because the angle didn’t get 100% and also the tree feels a bit too weak. So I need to figure out how to get it up because I don’t feel like using a ginpole either. That is very time demanding and the top section weighs a bit too much for me to feel safe about it. So either we’ll use the small village crane or get an excavator to pull it up, I’ll make some calls.

The 18m tower ready to be lifted
More details made
I did some boom-element brackets today. One so that I can convert the 5el CUE DEE 20m monobander to hairpin match and the other just because I’ve misplaced or used the other plate for something else. I need to make a “transfer pipe” between the rotor to the top 61mm steel pipe, some more of the details for the driven element and mast to boom plate before the weekend. I also need to go and buy some exhaust clamps and clamps for the guy wires to the tower.
SK2AU visit
The local radio club SK2AU had planned a visit to SJ2W this Saturday. When they arrived I was still up in the tower but SM2XJP and SM2LIY gave them a little tour of the station. When I gotten down from the tower we took a tour around the property and we showed them the place and the future plans for the QTH. After that we drank some coffee and talked about various things. It seemed like the did enjoy the visit.
Visitors from SK2AU were, SM2XLL, SM2XJP, SM2ALV, SM2DLA, SM2RMG and SA2AIE and also Leif.
After the SK2AU guys left, SM2OKD showed up with two friends. We had just finished eating some sausages so the BBQ was still warm and SM2OKD cooked some more sausages for his friends. When they were about to leave SM2NOG showed up with SM2HWG. They had been in SikeƄ lifting up two boats and SM2NOG had some cables and I-beams with him that he dropped off.
Plans for the weekend
Seems like we might get quite good weather this weekend. Right now SM2LIY is at the QTH and was burning branches during the afternoon. Apparently he’s gotten rid of most of it so I will try to prepare everything and see if the excavator guy has got time to come over a dig for a few hours. What is planned is to dig 4 holes for the 40m tower project and four holes for the 18m tower project. I will also ask him to dig down a tube between the barn and the house so I can put down a new cable for the electricity. I guess we will need to remove some logs as well.
Otherwise plans are to try to get some boards up in the roof of the isolated house in the barn. I didn’t get any done on it last weekend so we will see if I do something on it this weekend. SM2XJP will also come over and we will mount some head lights on his car.
I will try to continue the work on the beams. Need to finish up the 10m yagi and work on the 2nd 3el yagi for 40m. I have still not gotten the outer element parts done at work since I’ve been so busy, so I will try to get the guy lines on the elements and maybe get them mounted on the boom as well.
I will update during the weekend with some pictures of whats happening.
