Making the support for the 16m tower

I arrived to the QTH today Wednesday and decided that I wanted to clean the barn a bit. So I moved the stuff from the room with concrete floor to another room and started to do some cleaning. I will need to do a bit more though but will be doing that later during the week.

After that I started to work on the support for the 16m rotatable tubular tower. I used to have this tower in the SM3 QTH and it was held by a 4m long U beam. My dad brought that beam with him up last weekend so I decided to make the support which will hold the tower to the wall. I plan to use 4 pcs of 16mm bolts through the wall with some plate on the back to even out the stress of the tower. This tower is meant to be the 2nd direction tower for 10m but until we get sunspots it will be #1. It will hold a 6/6el stack which will be good enough until we put up the future big tower for 10/15m.

Here are some pictures of what is done so far. I will continue to weld the pieces together tomorrow so keep tuned.

The rest of the weekend

Was spent to finish up the guy wire anchor but also to cut wood. My mom, dad, girlfriend and the 9.5 year old dog Bishop came to visit and my dad brought equipment for cutting wood. So we did a few hours of cutting, a few hours of talking, a few hours of Eurovision and did also eat nice food that my mother cooked. I did however handle the barbecue.

Here are the pictures with explanations

Guy wire anchors

I arrived to the radio QTH today and started to work on the guy wire anchors for the smaller towers. They will measure 200x200x600mm and will weigh around 50-60kg. They will be burried about 1.5m below ground which should be enough for these small towers, especially since it’s just clay ground here.

The guy wire running out from the anchor is 68mm2, the same kind that is used for the 60m tower so it will not break 🙂

More pictures tomorrow when I have hopefully put concrete in the form.

Remote control installation

Some work was done two weeks ago. The power outlets behind the fake wall was installed and also connected to a new power central which was put up during the same weekend. Currently the amplifier room and the radio shack is connected to it. Each operating position (#3 and #4 shares) can be turned on/off from inside the shack and each operating position is also independently fused.

I added a 24V supply in the basement which is used for contactors etc to turn on/off amplifiers.

Still snow at the station, however a lot melted during the weekend.

Snow snow and more snow

Contactor used to turn on/off the amp.

The grey box on the top right is the remote control box for the amp which I recently built.

The power outlets behind the fake wall. Operation position #1 and #2 has got 8 outlets each and position #3 and #4 shares 8 outlets.

Cheap cable holders (thanks for the idea K1TTT). These work UFB, they are not the prettiest but they work and are cheap.

A bunch made

New power central was installed. Currently the amplifier room and the radio shack is installed to it. Operating position #1, #2 and 3+4 are fused independently.

The 24V supply with the box to turn one wall outlet on/off.

Cable holders in place with two cables running inside. Those are control cables for the amplifier.

Contact block which connects the black thick cable going from the shack with the cable to the amplifier.

24V supply temporarily in place

The contactor on the wall, I didn’t have enough cable clips so I will finish that up later.

The amp room, a bit messy but this was taken right after the installation was done.

To be continued…
