Comments:

WOW, this was really a great experience. I didn't think these kind of numbers
were possible up at 64 degrees north, but with quite good amount of sunspots
and no aurora during most of the contest made it possible. However the bands
dropped out during Sunday afternoon so we ended up running the end of the
contest beaming south on the lowbands. But since we hadn't done this previously
it produced quite good rates.

This was a great combination of 10m being alive and producing the most number
of mults while the lowbands were still quite good, except for 160m. 40m was
amazing during the first night.

The Swedish record was at a bit over 9 million points and we set an optimistic
goal of 10 million with 6000 qsos.

60m tower finished and SAC SSB

This weekend was meant to be a work weekend, but after we got the 40m stack box up the tower and got delayed about 1.5 hours we worked rest of the contest. Now I hope we have time to get the 18m tower with the 5el for 20m up before the snow but it will be close. Its no disaster if this does not happen, but it would make us a lot more flexible.

Comments:

Going into this contest we did not plan anything serious. Last weekend we
managed to get two new antennas up and Saturday morning was spent with SM2WMV 3-4
hours up in the tower getting stuff in order. When this was done some more time
was spent getting the cabling finished on the ground and we lost the first 1.5
hours of the contest. So we guess that probably 250 qsos was lost during this
period. However we managed to beat last years score.

It was fun to see 10m alive the way it was. We heard W6 on 10m at 01:30z which
must be many years since it was possible. We also had great night time openings
towards US on 15 and 20m. However there was some aurora which can clearly be
seen looking at our rate sheet. Best hour was in the middle of the night on 20m
when the aurora finally released its grip of the polar path.

80m was painful and also 40m was down compared to last year. The mult count on
80m is just ridiculous but we tried, many times and still could not get
anything going at all. Thanks to K3ZO though for calling in as the only US
station. As M/S we aren't able to do DUAL CQ either which otherwise is a good
help during those slow hours.

Since we didn't plan anything serious, we didn't really have a real mult
station. We hooked up a radio barefoot but we didn't move much mults, since we
were not going to be serious anyway.

Next one will be M/S in CQWW SSB, so look for us then!

Check out the website, it contains lots of information about the progress of
the contest station. You can also find the equipment etc there.

Comments:

This was fun. Propagations were outstanding in the beginning of the contest but
the usual aurora visited us up in the north and we as usual were saying that
the contest should have started a day earlier. However some hardware upgrades
made us able to beat last years score, even though propagations were down a lot
most of the contest. Activity felt low as usual from US but quite a lot of JAs
worked.

66% EU
16% NA
14% AS

Our mults are higher than last year and qso count just a bit below but qso
points higher. So we are very happy considering the propagations.

Now there are some antenna upgrades planned the two weekends before SAC SSB and
hopefully that work gets done in time so we can operate the SSB leg as well.

Check the website for lots of information on the ongoing projects and also
information about the station,

Thanks for the qsos!

Comments:

Contest started with difficult conditions, weak signals, thunder QRM and hot
temperature in shack. 20m was the best band this time as expected.
15 was unusually bad and 10m only had openings in the SE direction via weak Es
on Sunday.
160/80 bands were OK into Europe but no openings into NA or far east.

Station performed very well, Mike has done a superb set-up for SO2R and was
nice to operate. I was a bit rusty in operating SO2R but it was getting better
every hour.
